Urban

Dr. Maura Ferguson made a transition to working in mental health after working as an HIV test counsellor at UCSF AIDS health project in San Francisco, which gave her a very real and personal understanding of the effects of stigmas related to sexual orientation, gender identity, race, and class affect physical and mental health.

Her work in community mental health also gave me a deep appreciation of how much community and larger forces far beyond the nuclear family affect health for better or worse.

Dr. Ferguson has a background in Design and Urban Planning, something she remains interested in. She has travelled and lived abroad, which informed her understanding of the effects of immigration and displacement.
